Art Inspired by Cordwainer Smith
Science fiction art is a unique genre, and Cordwainer Smith
stories have been illustrated by many excellent artists.
Virgil Finlay's illustrations
are used on this website by permission of his daughter, Lael
Finley. Pierre Lacombe's
work is shown in this section, as is that of Corby Waste.
Much of the Cordwainer Smith illustration can be seen on the
magazine cover page and on
the section of book cover
pages.
(If you do science fiction art and do some illustrating
Cordwainer Smith, I might like to put it up on this website.
There is no pay involved, but contact me if you are interested.
Of course, you would remain the copyright holder of your art,
just as the Cordwaner Smith Estate holds the copyright to
anyone selling art products derived from the writings.)
Art on other websites
Here's a link to some Cordwainer Smith art done by an
Australian physicist, Dr. Paddy McGee, of the High-energy
Astrophysics Group, University of Adelaide, South
Australia.
A Drawing He Did at 15
Researcher Alan Elms recently discovered this notebook title
page, done in 1928, at a time when my father was calling
himself Paul Myron Linebarger, Jr. I don't know when he stopped
doing this and switched to Paul M A Linebarger. I don't
remember him doing any drawings as an adult.

Thanks to the Spencer Library at the
University of Kansas for archiving this illustration and
other materials in their Cordwainer Smith Collection.
